Invitees to the event will also have a chance to meet local partners in Panera Bread's community outreach program, Operation Dough-Nation®. Operation Dough-Nation® is a program that ensures that every purchase at Panera Bread feeds back into the community. All cash donations made in special containers near the registers are matched with freshly baked bread and cash for distribution to local charities, such as The Food Bank of Westchester. At the end of the day, every local Panera Bread bakery-café delivers all unsold bread to local hunger relief agencies. Christina Rohatynskyj, Executive Director from The Food Bank for Westchester, representing one such local charitable organization benefiting from this program, asserts: "Panera Bread is a stellar example of corporate community commitment and corporate responsibility. The food and fund donations from Panera Bread will help feed many hungry Westchester children and their families who will not only get nourishment for their bodies but also hope for a better future. Thank you Panera Bread!"
The Food Bank for Westchester was incorporated in 1988 as Food People Allied to Combat Hunger, Inc. to better meet the increasing need for food in Westchester County, New York. The Food Bank for Westchester is the back bone of Westchester's emergency food distribution network, providing over 90% of all the food distributed by 190 grass roots programs such as food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters and residential programs, helping to feed hungry Westchester children and their families. The Food Bank for Westchester is a member of America's Second Harvest, the national food bank network and the Food Bank Association of New York State. Last year the Food Bank for Westchester distributed over 4.3 million pounds of food, helping to feed some or all of the 200,000 Westchester residents who are suffering from hunger or are food insecure. It was not enough!
